    Hello all,

I wanted to share with you a method of reformatting and reinstalling a replacement fully functional ROM image for the Orphan M800 aPad Tablet computer.

Before you can start this process you will need to download the following user created files.

Download Unofficial Orphan M800 Hybrid Android Installation [1.7.4]

You'll need to unzip the files using 7Zip, using other unzip programs such as Winrar or Winzip may cause the files to be corrupted and you may brick your tablet. If you don't already have 7Zip you can download it from download.com here.

For this entire process you should have your unit plugged to its power supply and ensure it is switched on at the mains.

    Steps:

    1. Extract the contents of the download (Unofficial Orphan M800 Hybrid Android Installation [1.7.4]). Copy the 'script' folder into the root directory of your empty and formatted SD-card. Once extracted move the “script” folder to the root of the SD card

Place the SD-card into your M800 aPad.

Now reboot your M800. The M800 will now start to setup your tablet after reading the script file you placed on the SD-card. You should see something like this:

Once the process has finished. The M800 will reboot. During the whole process do not power off your Android tablet, as this will very likely damage your aPad tablet.

After the screen is calibrated you can start to set your tablet how you want it. If at first your WiFi is not connecting, simply turn it off and on and reboot. There are some known bugs with the Google Android Market for this unofficial Hybrid installation, where sometimes the Android Market will stop functioning. A simple cure for this is to always have an application listed for download.

Thank you to aPad.TV for letting me post this information here.

    Regards,

I suggest this ROM should only be used if you've accidentally corrupted your existing operating system.

This did not fix the WiFi issue that i have been having with the unit OUT OF THE BOX. Wifi is Unable to scan for networks, and will not accept settings manually.

Yes bifax, i have had it for two weeks and am unable to get it to connect to my home wireless LAN, or any wireless lan that i know of.
It will not save manual settings and i also get a message saying that it is unable to scan for networks

All Orphan M800 and M808 units are tested for WiFi connectivity before dispatch, so its possible that you may have a problem with your settings or router. It may not be an Orphan M800 or not from an official seller. Where did you purchase this unit Prometheus?

    Orphan M800

I know that i don't have a problem with my settings or my router, as i have a mobile phone and a Laptop that can connect to it and browse the internet on both. I have also taken the M800 to a local free Wifi access point and can connect to it using the mobile phone and laptop but am unable to connect with the M800.
I bought the M800 from www.chinagrabber.com. If you want to check with them the order number is 17737.
I have attached an image of the Box it arrived in. The other 3 attached images are the messages i receive when trying to connect it to my wireless network.
Also, when i go into WiFi settings, under MAC Address it says that it is Unavailable, which leads me to beleive that the WiFi hardware is not installed in the unit. I bought the unit with WiFi in the specifications and i want what i paid for, and want it working. Thats not too much to ask is it. I have had this for 2 weeks now and havent been able to use it.

When i turn wifi on it scans for networks i get a message saying that it is unable to scan and wifi turns off (image 1).
I enter the wifi settings in manually (image 2) and i get (Image 3). When i turn WiFi on it turns itself off after about 10 seconds.

I've never had this error occur on my M800 before, so I would take a guess that it may have taken a knock in transit, as there is not much scope for problems with these machines in terms of hwardware faults. I have 4 different aPads now and problems only seem to arise from software or configuration issues caused by my tinkering.

Off the top of my head I would suggest to check the regional setting of your Wlan channel availability and also ensure the key you are entering is in the format selected, such as Hexadecimal or ASCII.

Now if the Wlan hardware is failing to function at all, a way to check this would be to follow these steps:

(I read a few weeks ago it was possible for some software to corrupt Wlan drivers in Android devices and cause the supplicant to be corrupted which stops the Wlan from starting)

One way to check if the device drivers are loading would be to use a terminal to examine the Wlan confirguration and status. Download the terminal .apk app I have attached this post and install it. Once installed input 'ifconfig' to check the name of your Wlan adapter, then input 'ifconfig ra0' if ra0 was the name of your Wlan adapter.

If you can post a screenshot of what you are getting after inputting this would be useful.

    Hope this is helpful,

    Coder

Thank you to apadtvadmin for adjusting the attachment filesize limit so I could add the .apk to this post.
